Rediscovering Matisse

Henri Matisse revolutionized modern art with a radical conception of color, form, and composition. This series of conferences, related to the exhibition “Chez Matisse. The Legacy of a New Painting,” invites us to rediscover his work from multiple perspectives: the historical context, his relationship with other artists, the evolution of his visual language, and the impact of his innovations on contemporary art. Through various presentations and dialogues, we will explore his fascination with color as an expressive engine, his evolution from Fauvism to the famous gouaches découpés, the influence of his environment and literature on his art, as well as his ability to transform adversity into creativity. We will also discuss the representation of the female body in his work and address the role of art as a refuge.
